Wow! What an event! It is truly remarkable to see what can be accomplished when community comes together for one common goal – in celebration and support of one another. This now-annual event was held Saturday, August 13 at the White Oak Antique Tractor Club grounds north of Deer River. Starting with a 5k, hosted by Get Fit Itasca, and a free pancake breakfast, courtesy of Deer River Lion’s Club and Peewee Wrestling, we began a day of activities and entertainment! Guests enjoyed performances by DRHS choir, Just for Kix dance, the Jammers, a pie-eating contest by Deer River Healthcare Volunteers, and a kids dance by STEP Coalition. Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe hosted an exhibition powwow while community vendors, the Ninja Anywhere Obstacle Wall, face painting by Morgan Osborne, and train rides by Dale Haiby and Cliff Grife filled the day. Food vendor trucks, ice cream by Northern Star Marketplace, free popcorn from ISD #317, free cotton candy and concessions kept bellies full! We cannot thank our community vendors, donors, volunteers, contracted vendors, and sponsors enough for helping Forward Health Foundation facilitate this event and make it a reality.
Financial sponsors for the event included: TC Energy, Itasca Area Community Education, Essentia Health, Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, Paul Bunyan Communications, Blandin Foundation, Dr Tom & Judy Dimich and Deer River Cooperative Credit Union
